SANAutil

SANAutil is a testing/debugging tool for SANA2 network device drivers.
It can be used to send/receive packets and display/change device status.
This document assumes that the reader is somewhat familiar with
networking terminology and the SANA2 specification.
(The SANA2 specification (version 2) is available from
Aminet, dev/misc/sana2_v2.lha)
Basic options:
-d <device_name> or DEVICE=<device_name>
Sets the SANA2 device name. If not specified,
Sanautil reads the name from ENV:SANA2.Device,
and if that doesn't exists, it uses the default
"a2065.device".
-u <unit_number> or UNIT=<unit_number>
Sets the SANA2 device unit number. If not specified,
Sanautil reads it from ENV:SANA2.Unit, and if that
doesn't exist, the default is zero.
-e or EXCLUSIVE
Puts the SANA2 device in exclusive mode.
(Sets the SANA2IOF_MINE-flag on OpenDevice)
-p or PROMISCUOUS
Puts the SANA2 device in promiscuous mode.
(Sets the SANA2IOF_PROM-flag on OpenDevice)
This allows receiving packets that were not
not addressed to this machine. All SANA2
devices don't support this option.
Commands:
SEND <addresss> [TYPE=<packet_type>] [LENGTH=<packet_length>] [DATA=<string>]
This sends a packet to the specified address.
The format of the address is the normally used with Ethernet,
ie. hexadecimal numbers separated by colons
(for example 00:00:6E:10:86:33).
The optional TYPE-parameter specifies the packet type
(decimal number). Default is 5000.
The optional LENGTH-parameter specifies the length of the packet
to be send (not including headers). If not given, the default
is 100 bytes.
The DATA-argument ca be used to fill the packet data with the given
string. If the packet is shorter than the data, extra data is ignored,
and if the packet is longer than the data, the packet is filled with
the data (repeating the string).
(Default data is "SANAUtil test packet -- ").
Note that the device driver must be configured and online for
this to work (this command does not automatically try to
configure the device)
MULTICAST <addresss> [TYPE=<packet_type>] [LENGTH=<packet_length>]
[DATA=<string>]
Similar to SEND, but uses S2_MULTICAST command to send the packet.
BROADCAST [TYPE=<packet_type>] [LENGTH=<packet_length>] [DATA=<string>]
Similar to SEND, but uses BROADCAST (so no address argument is used).
DUMP
Displays received packets. Uses S2_READORPHAN, so it only
shows packets that are not requested by any other program/
protocol stack. This doesn't buffer the packets, so it
may only display a small amount of the actual network traffic.
Note that the device driver must be configured and online for
this to work (this command does not automatically try to
configure the device)
RECEIVE <packet_type>
Similar to DUMP, but receives a specified packet type.
Depending on the device driver it may work even if there
is another program requesting the same packet type.
STATUS
Display SANA2 device status/address information.
(uses S2_DEVICEQUERY, S2_GETSTATIONADDRESS, S2_GETGLOBALSTATS
and S2_GETSPECIALSTATS to read the info from the device)
CONFIG [ADDRESS=<address>]
Configures the SANA2 device. If ADDRESS-parameter is not given,
uses the default address, otherwise uses the specified address.
ONLINE, OFFLINE
These commands put the SANA2 device in the Online/Offline state.
ADDMULTICAST <address>
DELMULTICAST <address>
These commands add and remove multicast addresses.
TRACKTYPE <packettype>
UNTRACKTYPE <packetype>
These commands add/remove the specified packet type
to/from the type tracking list.
TYPESTAT <packettype>
Shows the statisticks for <packettype>. Requires that
the type is currently being tracked.
